Leanne Haines 10B What Affects the Rate of Reaction between Sodium Thiosulphate and Hydrochloric Acid? Sodium Thiosulphate + Hydrochloric Acid = sodium chloride+ water + sulphur dioxide + sulphur Na2S2O3 (aq) + 2HCl (aq) = 2NaCl (aq) + H2O (l) + SO2 (g) + S (s) Planning Input Variables Outcome Amount of sodium Thiosulphate Rate of Reaction Amount of Hydrochloric acid Temperature Conc. of sodium Thiosulphate Conc. of hydrochloric acid Add a catalyst The variable that is going to be changed is the concentration of Sodium Thiosulphate. The concentration of Sodium Thiosulphate was chosen over the concentration of HCl because only a little HCl is needed for a reaction so only a small range could be produced. By changing the concentration we are not changing the volume of the liquids. The amounts aren't going to be changed as this would mean that the volume of the liquids would change therefore affecting the depth of the liquids in the chonical flask which could in turn...
