This happens through a complex system in one's body, passing several different stages. The first stage is the stimulus. This is not part of the body, but it is what triggers a reaction. The second stage is the receptor, which is what senses the stimulus. The third stage is the coordinator, which is either the brain or the spinal cord. The information travels along the spinal cord to get to the brain, which assesses the information. The next stage is the effector, which is the muscle or gland that makes the reaction happen.
