Investigate how concentration different the reaction between sodium thiosulphate and hydrochloric acid. If a burning splint is put near a balloon full of hydrogen, there is a very loud bang. A chemical reaction has happened. Hydrogen has burned in air to make water vapour. The reaction happens very fast indeed. When a cake is being cooked in the oven, a series of chemical reactions are happening. They happen only slowly -it may take 30 minutes or more to cook the cake. All the time an apple is ripening on a tree, chemical reactions are happening. The acids that make the unripe apple sour are being replaced by sugars.
