How concentration affects the rate of reaction Aim: To measure the rate of reaction between hydrochloric acid and sodium thiosulphate, when the concentration is altered. Diagram: Equipment: * Measuring cylinder * 3x 100ml beakers * Stopwatch * Distilled water * Sodium thiosulphate * Hydrochloric acid * Paper + Pen Method: We got a piece of lined paper and drew a small cross on the middle of it, then we got 10ml of hydrochloric acid and 25ml of sodium thiosulphate with a concentration of 5g/l. James then mixed the two liquids in a 100ml beaker and I timed how long it was until I was unable too see the cross. We repeated this 3 times and calculated the average time. We then thoroughly washed the beakers in hot then cold water to maintain there temperatures and performed the experiment again using 10g/l up to 50g/l concentrations in 5g/l steps.
