GCSE SCIENCE SC1 ASSESSMENT 1. PLAN (P) Aim To investigate how varying the amount of Magnesium added affects the rise in temperature of a copper sulphate solution. Background scientific Information A displacement reaction occurs when a more reactive metal pushes out a less reactive one from a solution of its salts. The reaction vessel usually gets hot which is what happens in the reaction I will be testing which is: Magnesium + Copper Sulphate -> Copper + magnesium sulphate Metal Solution Metal Solution Prediction I predict that when the magnesium is mixed with the copper sulphate solution, there will be a reaction where steam will be produced and that the temperature will increase as I have put in my background information that the reaction vessel usually gets hot. I expect this to happen because DISPLACEMENT will happen because magnesium is more reactive and has a faster rate of reaction than copper, which I know from the reactivity series. As I...
