Science Coursework Rates of reaction Aim: To investigate how the temperature affects the rate of reaction between two acids, in this case Sodium thiosulphate and hydrochloric acid. The chemical equation for this is: 2HCL + Na2S2o3 --> 2Nacl + H20 + So2 +S Prediction: I predict that by increasing the temperature (and by leaving the other variables the same) the rate of reaction will increase. I found out from a text book that (with most reactions) by increasing the temperature by 10 0C then the rate will double. The collision theory is behind this. The collision theory states that the rate of reaction depends on how hard and how often particles hit each other, this means that to react things have to collide at the right speed. By increasing the temperature you are introducing more energy particles into the solution so the existing particles move faster - therefore they hit harder-. This is...
