OGIDI JONATHAN Aim: To demonstrate that increase in catalase concentration influences the rate of decomposition of hydrogen peroxide. Theory: Catalase is found in cells of living organisms. It's a biological enzyme that is responsible for the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide, a biological waste product that accumulates in cells. The products of this decomposition are water and oxygen. 2H2O2 + Catalase 2H2O + O2 (Hydrogen peroxide) (Water) (Oxygen) Many factors affect the rate at which catalse decomposes hydrogen peroxide including their temperature, pH, concentration and inhibitors. This experiment concentrates on the effect of catalase concentration at the rate of reaction. Am going to use yeast as a source for the catalase. Apparatus: Conical flasks Measuring cylinders (20cm3, 100cm3) Retort stand, clamp and boss. Delivering tube Balance 400ml of 30 vol hydrogen peroxide Distilled water Beaker Water baths Spatula Dried yeast Stop clock Thermometer Diagram: Method: 1. Weigh out 5 different masses of yeast and dissolve each in 100ml of buffered distilled water in a beaker (The buffer tablet used...
