To Investigate the Effect of Manganese IV Oxide on the rate of decomposition of Hydrogen Peroxide Rory Good Preliminary Experiment Before we experiment with hydrogen peroxide we need to find out what the best catalyst would be that would react with a solution. The catalysts available are: * Manganese IV oxide (MnO2) * Zinc oxide (ZnO) * Aluminium oxide (Al2O3) * Iron III oxide (Fe2O3) A control is also used in this experiment so that it can be seen that a reaction will take place only when there is a catalyst added to the solution. Theory The formula for the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide is as follows: 2H202(aq) => 2H20(l) + O2(g) It is worth noting that the compounds used are used as catalysts and therefore they are not used up, nor do they play a part in the equation.
