To investigate a factor which will influence the rate of the reaction between calcium carbonate and hydrochloric acid. In my investigation I hope to investigate how the concentration of a solution will influence the rate of reaction between calcium carbonate and hydrochloric acid. In order for particles (atoms, ions or molecules) to react together they must a) Collide with each other b) Have at least a certain amount of energy known as the activation energy. The rate of reaction is a measure of how fast the reaction takes place. I know that Acid + carbonate ? salt + water + carbon dioxide Hydrochloric acid + calcium carbonate ? calcium chloride + water + carbon dioxide 2HCl + CaCO3 ? CaCl2 + H2O + CO2 I will therefore measure the rate of reaction by measuring the amount of carbon dioxide given off in a fixed time.
