Preliminary Experiment Aim My aim is to investigate the factors that affect the rate of reaction. I will be seeing how the concentration of the hydrochloric acid affects the rate of reaction with magnesium ribbon. Diagram Risk Assessment * Be careful whilst using the acids * Make sure all glassware is safely on the table to prevent it from falling off * Be careful whilst using the scissors Method 1. Place the gas syringe into the clamp as shown in the diagram, making sure it is safely secure but not too tight as it can damage the equipment. Check the syringe for any leaks by pulling it and seeing if it goes back to 0. Make sure that is at 0 to begin with. 2. Measure out 50mls of hydrochloric acid in a conical flask. 3. Add 2cm of magnesium ribbon to the solution, place the bun on the top and start the timer. 4. Read how much CO? has been given...
