Tim Yu The Rate of Reaction of Metals with Acid - [Preliminary Work.] Brief: I have to investigate the effect on the kinetics of a reaction of several different variables. At this stage, I have chosen to study the effect of concentration and temperature on the reaction. Preliminary experiment 1: effect of concentration on rate of reaction Method: I intend to change the concentration of my acid for the first experiment, using 10 cm3 of acid at varying concentrations. The acid will be measured out using a 10 cm3 pipette, read at eye level to avoid parallax error. However, to ensure a reliably accurate experiment other variables will need to be controlled, such as: - Initial temperature of reaction - Size and type of magnesium (typically, this will mean using magnesium from same coil, and cut to same length) - Agitation of reaction - Type of acid Using the apparatus shown above, I will be able to collect the...
