The Effect of an inhibiter on an Enzyme Reaction Introduction In this investigation I will be carrying out an experiment to find out the effect of an inhibiter on an enzyme reaction. I will be using carrot and Hydrogen peroxide for the reaction and Copper sulphate as the inhibiter. Background Knowledge Enzyme Reaction For all enzyme reaction a substrate (S) is converted to a product (P). Most of these reactions are enzyme-controlled. The enzyme helps to speed up the reaction. When an enzyme catalyst is present an enzyme-substrate complex (ES) is formed by the substrate binding to the active site of the enzyme. While the substrate is bind it is converted to a product and then released. This reaction is shown in the diagram. Inhibitors Inhibitors slow down the rate of the reaction.
