Introduction A synapse is a specialized junction through which cells of the nervous system signal to one another and to non-neuronal cells such as muscles or glands. Within a human body synapses occur which result in movement of the body. There are two types of synapses, electrical and chemical. The chemical is only relevant in this investigation. In a transmission across a chemical synapse calcium ions diffuse into the pre-synaptic knob.
