The Effect Of Concentration On The Rate Of Reaction Background The rate of reaction tells us how quickly a chemical reaction happens. The rate of reaction is very important to many industries, it is able to tell them how much of their product they are able to make every hour of every day of every week. We are unable to measure the rate of reaction by just using a chemical equation, this is only able to tell us the product made, not the quantity of the product made. All substances are made of particles, whether they are ions, molecules or atoms. Before any chemical reaction takes place particles must collide, this is the collision theory. The more collisions that there are between particles in any given time then the faster the reactions.
