Unit 5: Synthesising organic and biochemical compounds Preparation 1-bromobutane Prepared by: Tahir Sheikh-Noor Introduction In this experiment a sample of 1-bromobutane will be prepared. This will involve the technique to separate and purify the product. I will be very carefully to obtain the maximum yield possible. We will use reflux condenser to gently heat the substance for a period of time without losing any liquid because it condenses back into the pear shape flask. STRUCTURAL ISOMERISM What are isomers? Isomers are molecules that have the same molecular formula, but have a different arrangement of the atoms in space. That excludes any different arrangements which are simply due to the molecule rotating as a whole, or rotating about particular bonds. For example, both of the following are the same molecule.
