Speeding Up A Chemical Reaction Catalysed by an Enzyme June 2001 Biology SC1 Name: Jason Stokes Form: 11ED3 Teacher: Mrs Flood Set: 1c Strand Overall Mark Planning 2a 4a 4b 6a 8a 8b Observing 2a 4a 4b 6a 8a Analysing 2a 4a 4b 6a 8a 8b Evaluating 2a 4a 4b 6a List Different Factors that can affect the rate of a reaction Surface Area: The greater the surface area the faster the reaction. This is because when the surface area is larger the two chemicals that are reacting with each other are more likely to collide and the reaction is more likely to take place. Temperature: The higher the temperature the faster the reaction. This is because if the temperature of the reactants are raised the particles in the liquid gain more kinetic energy and move around faster. Because the particles are moving faster, they are more likely to collide more often and with more force. Stirring the Solution: The more you stir the solution the faster the reaction. When you stir the solution the particles move faster and so the reaction will be speeded up. Catalysts: Catalysts...
