RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SURFACE AREA AND REACTION RATE Article I. Planning Section 1.01 Aim To find out the relationship between surface area and reaction rate. Section 1.02 Prediction [*1]My prediction is that the bigger the surface area the faster the reaction rate will be therefore the gas will be produced faster. In other words the surface area will be directly proportional to the reaction rate. I have enough scientific knowledge to back up my prediction. The bigger the surface area the more particles there are on the surface of the magnesium. Usually when the surface area doubles the reaction rate doubles. Chemical reactions between particles take place by chance. Usually at room temperature this chance is about 30% of all collisions. Particles need to collide with enough velocity so that they react. As the surface area is increased the particles have a bigger surface to collide with, so more particles can react at a time. This...
