Lab on Relation between chest volume and vital capacity Research question: Is there a correlation between the Vital capacity of a person, the flow rate and his/her chest volume? Hypothesis: There is very little correlation between Vital capacity, flow rate and chest volume. Tools: Vital capacity measurer, flow rate meter, water, carton cylinders, Method: The chest volume was measured by measuring the distance between: 1. The 2 shoulders 2. Shoulder to the lowest rib 3. the thickness of the chest (2 bones located in the shoulder area) Then these three measurements were multiplied together so as to find out the chest volume.
