GCSE Chemistry Coursework - Rates of Reactions. In this coursework I plan to set-up an experiment to investigate the affect temperature has on rates of reactions. I plan to place calcium carbonate chips into different temperatures of hydrochloric acid and record the rate of reaction every few seconds by reading the amount of gas produced by reading the gas syringe. I will use a range of equipment to ensure my results are safe and accurate. Prediction. I predict that as the temperature increases the rate of reaction will increase also. This is because particle theory (see below). Scientific Explanation. The rate of reaction increases as temperature increases. This is because when the temperature of the reaction mixture is increased, the particles move around faster and collide more often therefore more successful collisions will occur.
