William Pearson Investigation into Rates of Reactions I know that different reactions happen at different speeds, for example: rusting is a slow process but an explosion happens almost instantly. I know that there are several different factors that affect the rate of a reaction. First we need to know about why particles move and also why they collide. Kinetic theory The main points about the kinetic theory are: * All matter is made up of very small particles * The particles are always moving but their speed and distance is directly proportionate to the temperature. Collision theory .........For a reaction to take place the reactant particles must collide. And They must collide with enough energy-the activation energy- other wise they will just rebound off one another harmlessly. The activation energy is needed to start to break bonds and to get the reaction started. Using this information I now know that all reactions need enough energy to react.
