Rates of Reaction Coursework Experiment to see how the Concentration of Acid Changes the Rate of Reaction Plan In this practical I am going to add marble chips, a form of calcium carbonate, to hydrochloric acid and collect the gas produced into a gas syringe. Then I am going to change the concentration of the acid and see how the rate of the reaction changes as a consequence of this. The reaction that is going to take place is the one below: Calcium Carbonate + Hydrochloric Acid ( Calcium Carbonate + Water + Carbon Dioxide CaCO3 (s) + HCl (aq) ( CaCl2 (aq) + H2O (l) + CO2 (g) The gas produced is carbon dioxide. The fastest reaction will be the one which takes the least time to fill up the gas syringe.
