... REACTION BETWEEN WATER AND DIFFERENT SALTS Aim: To investigate the reaction between water and the salts, calcium chloride and ammonium chloride. Apparatus and Materials used: 1. 50cm³ Plastic beaker 2. 250cm³ glass beaker 3. Thermometer 4. Stop watch 5. Tissue 6. Spatula Procedure: 1. Plastic beaker containing 50 cm³ of water is placed inside a 250cm³ beaker 2. Tissue is placed in the space between Plastic and beaker 3. temperature of water is then recorded 4. Calcium chloride is then add to plastic beaker, one spatula at a time after each addition mixture is stirred with a thermometer 5. temperature is recorded every minute until all the calcium chloride has been added 6. Temperature is continuously recorded every minute for a further five minutes 7. Plastic beaker is then rinsed out thoroughly and experiment is repeated using ammonium chloride.
