Investigating the effect of varying concentration on the rate of a reaction. Aim: To find out how varying concentration effects the rate of a reaction. Prediction and Background Knowledge. I think that the higher the concentration used, the faster the rate of reaction. I have based this on work that I did in year nine, where we investigated the four main factors which affect the rate of a reaction - temperature, surface area, concentration, and catalysts. We found that an increase in temperature caused an increase in the rate of reaction, since particles at a higher temperature have more energy and are able to move around faster, creating more collisions. An increase in surface area caused an increase in the rate of reaction, as the greater the surface area, the more area there is for the particles to collide with, though this only effects reactions between a liquid and a solid.
