Nick Graham 11WS Investigating Reaction Rates Introduction In this experiment I will be investigating how the molarity of Sodium Thiosulphate solution effects the reaction rate with dilute Hydrochloric Acid. The equation for this reaction is: Na2S2O2 (aq) + 2HCl (aq) --> 2NaCl (aq) + H2O (l) + S (s) + SO2 (g) The rate of reaction is the measure of change of a reactant to a product. Factors There are five factors that affect the rate of reaction, which are: * Concentration / molarity of a reactant * A catalyst * The surface area of the solid * The temperature * Pressure The factor that I am going to investigate is the concentration of the Sodium Thiosulphate. I will use this because: * A catalyst isn't needed for this reaction as it's fast enough at room temperature. * Only liquids are involved in this reaction, so you can't change the surface area. * I could use temperature, but I am looking at concentration. * Pressure can only...
