Science Coursework Investigating How Concentration Affects The Rate Of Reaction About In this experiment I am trying to find out how the reaction between sodium thiosulphate solution (Na2SO3(aq)) and dilute hydrochloric acid can be used to study the effect of concentration on rate of reaction. We can find the reaction rate by mixing 5cm2 of 2.0m hydrochloric acid with 50cm3 of 0.05m Na2S2O3. Hydrochloric acid+sodium thiosulphatesodium chloride+sulphur dioxide+sulphur+water. HCl(aq) + Na2S2O3(aq) NaCl(aq) + SO2(g) + S(s) + H2O(l) The solid sulphur (S(s)) formed in this reaction makes the colourless solution go cloudy. This statement is important for my experiment: During the reaction solid particles of sulphur are formed and eventually you can't see through the beaker. Increasing the concentration of the thiosulphate or the temperature of the solution increases the rate of reaction. Planning Preliminary, I will put about 50cm3 of sodium thiosulphate solution into a small conical flask. I then will place the flask onto a sheet of laminated paper...
