Chemistry Coursework By Ross Neesom - Year 10. St.Aidens. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Introduction (Inc.Aim ) I will be conducting an experiment that will investigate the factor that affects the rate of reaction between hydrochloric acid and magnesium ribbon. The way I will be testing the rate of reaction is by measuring the hydrogen gas produced when the hydrochloric acid dissolves the magnesium (4cm), which can be collected using a gas syringe, and the time it took to get to a proposed level, which in this case is 40cm3. The 2 products that this reaction makes are hydrogen gas and magnesium chloride. This can be shown as: Mg + 2HCl = MgCl 2 + H2 This can also be written as: Magnesium + Hydrochloric acid = Magnesium Chloride + Hydrogen The method and a diagram showing what the experiment should look like once it is set up is written/drawn underneath the next page. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Equipment Safety goggles Lab coat Mg Ribbon Conical flask 20ml measuring cylinder 50ml measuring...
