Rate of Reaction Investigation Samuel Bell 10 Elm. Aim: To investigate the effect of the concentration of the sodium thiosulphate on the rate of a chemical reaction. Background Theory: The rate of reaction depends on how often the particles collide. If you increase the temperature the particles have more energy causing them to move quicker thus meaning they react quicker. If the concentration is increased the particles are more likely to collide, because there are more particles. If the sizes of the solid particles are broken up into smaller pieces the solution will react quicker because there are more particles. Also if a catalyst is used this increases the rate of reaction. It does this by creating a surface for the particles to stick to.
