CHEMISTRY COURSEWORK Experiment: Investigate the effect of temperature on the rate of reaction Preliminary Work As this experiment was new to me I did some preliminary work first. This was to find out which range of temperatures I should use for the experiment and a suitable volume of each liquid. The equation I used was: Hydrochloric acid + sodium thiosulphate Sulphur + sulphur dioxide + sulphur chloride + water As sulphur dioxide is poisonous I only used small amounts of hydrochloric acid + sodium thiosulphate, so I would not produce a dangerous amount of sulphur dioxide. Equipment Conical flask Sodium Hydrochloric acid Thiosulphate solution Timer Bunsen burner Laminated A4 paper Safety: With bold 'X' on Goggles to protect my eyes Method * Measure 10 ml of sodium thiosulphate and 25 ml of hydrochloric acid into separate flasks. * Heat sodium thiosulphate to required temperature * Add hydrochloric acid to sodium thiosulphate * Start timer * Watch cross underneath the solution * Stop timer when cross can no longer be...
