Rate of Reaction Coursework Aim In this experiment I will be investigating the effects of temperature on the rate of reaction between Hydrochloric Acid and Magnesium. I will measure this reaction by seeing how long a piece of magnesium ribbon takes to completely dissolve in different temperatures of hydrochloric acid. Background All substances are made up of particles. The particles might be atoms, molecules or ions. Before we can get a chemical reaction particles must collide together. This is called the collision theory. The more collisions there are between the particles in a given time, the faster the reaction. The changing factors in this are Temperature, concentration, Pressure, Surface Area, and Catalysts. Prediction My prediction is that the higher the temperature of the Hydrochloric Acid is the faster the rate of the reaction is. When the temperature of the Hydrochloric Acid is at 25.C the reaction is going to be fairly slow but when the temperature...
