The drug, caffeine, is widely distributed throughout the world as a key ingredient in many foods and beverages and in several pharmaceutical drugs. This drug has long been used as a stimulant and a diuretic. It is an effective stimulant of the central nervous system and in large doses could undesirably cause side effects such as insomnia, increased or irregular heartbeat to elevated blood sugar and cholesterol levels.
