How does the concentration of an acid effect its rate of reaction? I intend to find how the concentration of hydrochloric acid effects the rate with which it reacts with magnesium to produce hydrogen. Prediction: I predict that as the concentration is doubled the rate of reaction will also double. This is because if the hydrogen ions (which react with the magnesium to create hydrogen gas) in the solution are doubled per unit volume. This should mean that twice as many ions hit the surface area of the magnesium per unit time because of the decreased inter-particular distance (this is assuming that the particles do not get in each other's way). This means that it should create twice the fruitful collisions per unit time. Using background knowledge I concocted a method.
