Rate of Reaction Coursework Preliminary Work Aim: How does 'Surface Area' affect the rate of reaction between calcium carbonate and hydrochloric acid? Prediction: I predict that the bigger the surface area the faster the calcium carbonate will react with the hydrochloric acid therefore a faster reaction. Theory: The theory behind my prediction is that the bigger the surface area the more the hydrochloric acid can get at the calcium carbonate in a shorter space of time therefore making a quicker reaction this can be explained by the diagrams on page 2. Apparatus: plastic tub, measuring tube 10ml³, measuring tube 100ml³, test tube and a bung with plastic tube, test tube holder, stop clock, calcium carbonate (small, medium and large surface area), hydrochloric acid, water and goggles. Method: What we will do. Firstly we will set out all the apparatus the same as the diagram (on page 3) and make sure all safety aspects are followed i.e....
