HOW HEAT AFFECTS THE SPEED OF A CHEMICAL REACTION. Catherine Thorniley 10A Aim Using sodium thiosulphate and hydrochloric acid, my aim is to repeat the same experiment several times but heating the sodium thiosulphate to different temperatures and investigating the effect heat has on the rate of reaction. Prediction I predict that the higher the temperature, the faster the reaction will take place. Scientific Knowledge I think my prediction is correct because I can back it up with the kinetic theory, the collision theory and activation energy. Molecules are in constant motion, the intensity of the motion increases with the addition of heat. For the sodium thiosulphate and the hydrochloric acid to react they must firstly collide, secondly with sufficient energy and thirdly in the right direction.
