HOW DOES THE RATE OF REACTION CHANGE BETWEEN SODIUM THIOSULPHATE AND HYDROCHLORIC ACID WHEN SODIUM THIOSULPHATE IS DILUTED? INTRODUCTION The aim of this experiment is to determine how the rate of reaction changes as the volume and percentage of sodium thiosulphate is reduced, keeping the volume of hydrochloric acid the same. I know from my research into the collision theory, that the more collisions that occur within a substance, the faster the rate of reaction. It is a fact that the more concentrated the substance is, the more collisions will occur. Therefore, the reverse should be true; i.e. as more water is added to the solution, the less concentrated it would become and the slower the rate of reaction will be. The reaction between hydrochloric acid and sodium thiosulphate is known as a precipitation reaction, and can be expressed in words as follows:- hydrochloric acid + sodium thiosulphate sodium chloride+sulphur+sulphur dioxide+water or in symbols as :- 2Hcl(aq)...
