Chemistry Investigation Rachel Curry 11G Planning For this investigation I am looking into the rate of reaction between hydrochloric acid and calcium carbonate (limestone). Hydrochloric Acid + Calcium Carbonate ? Carbon Dioxide + Calcium Chloride + Water (Gives off a gas) There are different factors which may affect the rate of reaction in this investigation. The temperature of the acid may affect it. This is because the hotter the particles in the acid, the more energy they have. This means that the particles are more likely to collide, an increase in the number of collisions per second leads to an increase in the rate of reaction. Another factor is that if a piece of calcium carbonate is large it will take longer to react that if it is split in to many small pieces.
