Following my preliminary experiment I have made some research in order to improve my major experiment and its results. Aim: To find out how the rate of reaction between Hydrochloric Acid and Calcium carbonate is affected by temperature of the hydrochloric Acid. Using my refined knowledge on rates of reaction to make carry out this experiment successfully. Method: This time around I have found a very good cause for the fault in my previous experiment; Surface area. A solid in a solution can only react when particles collide with the surface. The bigger the area of the solid surface, the more particles can collide with it per second, and the faster the reaction rate is. To increase the surface area you can break to solid up into smaller particles, so I will now be using Calcium Carbonate powder instead of chips.
