Rate of Reaction Aim: To find out how changes in the concentration of reactants affects the rate of reaction Formula: In the solution the reaction would only happen if the thiosulphate ions and hydrogen ions collide together to produce sulphur, sulphur dioxide and water. The sodium and chlorine ions are spectator ions. After the reaction has taken place an opaque, yellowy liquid is left, cause by the insoluable sulphur particles. By using a cross, drawn on a white tile, placed underneath the conical flask in which the reaction is taking place we can see when the liquid has turned fully opaque and completed its reaction. Prediction: As the concentration of the sodium thiosulphate becomes more dilute the rate of reaction will decrease. This is because as the concentration of the sodium thiosulphate solution decreases there is less chance of the hydrogen and thiosulphate ions colliding, Equipment: Conical flask, 3 graduated pipettes, 3...
