Fern Emily White Mr.Griffiths Set 1 Chemistry coursework 2005 The investigation into the effect concentration has on the rate of reaction I am trying to find out what effect changing the concentration of sodium thiosulphate has on the reaction with hydrochloric acid. Background theory: There are 4 factors that effect rate of reaction, they are, temperature, concentration, surface area, and catalyst. Temperature increase causes the particles to move quicker which leads to more frequent collisions and a higher frequency of successful collisions. Also at a higher temperature, particles will collide with more energy. Higher concentration leads to more crowded particles, which leads to more frequent collisions and a higher frequency of successful collisions. If the surface area of a substance is increased, then there are more particles available for reaction, which leads to more frequent collisions, and more successful collisions.
