Samantha Thomson Factors affecting the rate of reaction I am going to investigate how temperature affects the rate of reaction between Sodium thiosulphate and hydrochloric acid. Sodium thiosulphate + Hydrochloric acid = Sulphur dioxide + sodium chloride Other factors, which affect the rate of reaction, are Surface Area: Small surface area Large surface area Large particles have small surface area Small particles have a large surface area And fewer particles are exposed therefore and more particles are exposed causing more Less particles collide which means rate of collisions and as a result a faster reaction. Reaction is slow. Another factor affecting the rate of reaction is concentration: Lower concentration Higher concentration If particles have a low concentration Particles with a higher concentration are This means that they are more spaced out more compact and have less freedom to And as they have more space for movement move which means a lot of collisions Fewer particles collide resulting in a slower reaction. And...
