Emission spectra Chemistry: For Dr Terence McIvor By Jaenette Satherlund Emission Spectrum Aim: The aim of this experiment was to see what colures different types of salt emits during combustion Apparatus: Gloves, protective glasses, spatula, watch glass, water, Bunsen burner, protective clothing, lighter, spatula and five different types of salt. Method: The protective clothing and glasses was put on, long hair was tied back for health and safety reasons. A sample of salt was put in the watch glass with droplets of distilled and deionised water (distilled water was used as tap water contains metal ions and might interfere with the experiment) and mixed until the salt became like a paste. Care was taken no salt came in to contact with the exposed skin. The Bunsen burner was attached to the gas.
