EXPERIMENT TO INVESTIGATE INTO THE EFFECT OF SURFACE AREA OF A SOLID REACTANT ON THE RATE OF REACTION AIM To investigate the effect of particle size on the rate of the chemical reaction. METHOD * 20cm³ 1.0 mol/l hydrochloric acid solution was measured and poured into beaker. * 2.0g of calcium carbonate was weighed on the filter paper. * Beaker containing acid, filter paper with calcium carbonate was placed on a balance. * The total contents were weighed on the balance pan. The mass was recorded. * Calcium carbonate from filter paper was transferred into acid in the beaker. At the same time stop clock was started. * The mass was recorded with three particle size samples.
