Is the order of reaction higher in a strong acid than in a weak acid?" Introduction: All the chemical reactions vary extremely in speed, also the rate of reactions vary greatly. Some reactions take place very slowly over a period of months such as the rusting of iron. Others take place over a period of weeks to become complete such as fermentation of ethanol. Some reactions take place so fast as to be explosive such as the reaction between hydrogen and oxygen. The rate of reaction can't be predicted from the standard enthalpy change.
