Introduction to Rates Rate is a measure of how fast or slow something is. It is a measure of the change that happens in a single unit of time. Rates can be measured in 2 different ways: (a) The rate of disappearance of a reactant. (b) The rate of appearance of a product. Some reactions are very fast and others are very slow.
