An investigation to discover the affect of concentration on a reaction Aim:- to investigate the affect of concentration of acid on the reaction: Calcium + Hydrochloric Calcium + Carbon + Water Carbonate Acid Chloride Dioxide CaCO3(s) + 2HCl(aq) CaCl2(aq) + H2O + CO2(g) Hypotheses- During reactions, reactants are used up and products are formed. Reactions occur due to the collision theory. I predict that the reaction will occur at a faster rate when the concentration of hydrochloric acid is increased. I predict this because, I know that when a solution is more concentrated it means that there are more particles of a reactant present. This makes effective collisions between the particles more likely. That is, more frequent collisions resulting in a higher rate of successful collisions, resulting in a reaction. The concentration is directly proportional to the rate of reaction The more concentrated the hydrochloric acid, the faster the reaction will be, because there will be more...
