Chemistry Coursework Title To investigate how concentration affects the rate of a chemical reaction. Aim We are going to investigate the reaction between sodium thiosulphate and hydrochloric acid. We are going to change the concentration of the sodium thiosulphate. Background Information Factors that can speed up or down the rate of reaction:> Temperature> Concentration> Surface Area> A catalyst For gases, increasing the pressure increases the rate of reaction. If you increase the concentration of the acid there are more acid particles in the same volume. Therefore there is a greater chance of acid particles colliding and reacting with particles on the surface of the other reactant. The reaction between sodium thiosulphate and hydrochloric acid is Sodium Thiosulphate (aq) + hydrochloric acid (aq) Sulphur(s) + sulphur dioxide + water + sodium chloride Na2S2O3 (aq) +2HCl (aq) S(S) + SO2 (g) + H2O + 2NaCl Prediction I predict the higher concentration of the sodium thiosulphate the faster the rate of reaction. I...
