An investigation into reactions of magnesium with hydrochloric acid Prediction: I think the higher the concentration, the quicker hydrogen gas will be produced and so the lower the concentration the slower it will be produced. Also because the reaction starts so soon the reaction will be quickly over. I know this will happen because the higher the concentration the more particles there are to collide with the magnesium, this is the same the other way, the lower the concentration the less particles there are to collide with the magnesium - this is called the collision theory. Scientific Background: The collision theory; for a reaction to occur the reactant particles must collide. Only a certain fraction of total collisions cause chemical charge; these are called fruitful collisions. The fruitful collisions have sufficient energy (activation energy) at the moment of impact to break the existing bonds and form new bonds, resulting in the products...
