An Investigation of the Effect that Concentration has on the Speed of a Reaction Aim I will investigate how the concentration of Hydrochloric Acid will affect the rate of reaction between Hydrochloric Acid and Sodium Thiosulphate. When Hydrochloric Acid and Sodium Thiosulphate are mixed together in a conical flask they form sulphur turning the solution cloudy. I will vary the concentration of the Hydrochloric acid. The rate of reaction will be found by finding the time for a cross drawn on a piece of paper under the conical flask to disappear from sight when looked at from above. It disappears because the sulphur formed from the solution is a solid and forms a cloud of particles that you cannot see through. Below is the equation for mixing Hydrochloric acid and Sodium Thiosulphate together. HCl+sodium thiosulphatesodium chloride+sulphur dioxide+sulphur+water. HCl(aq) + Na2S2O3(aq) NaCl(aq) + SO2(g) + S(s) + H2O(l) The Collision Theory The rate of a reaction depends on...
