An Investigation into the reaction between magnesium and hydrochloric acid An Investigation into the reaction between magnesium and hydrochloric acid - Planning I predict that as the Length of Mg Increases the higher th gain in temp. Chemical reactions take place by chance. Particles need to collide with enough velocity so that they react. As the Amount of Particals increase these reactions are more common and cause a higher temprature rise, also as the temperature increases the more energy in the particals. Since there are more collisions the chemical reaction takes place faster. * Pilot Experiment To decide on the best volume and concentration of hydrochloric acid and Length of magnesium a number of calculations were done and a pilot experiment conducted. The equation for the reaction is: Magnesium(s) + Hydrochloric Acid(aq)- Magnesium Chloride(aq) + Hydrogen(g) Mg(s) + 2HCL(l) MgCl2(l) + H2(g) We were advised to use uneven amounts of magnesium ribbon. The Relative Molecular Mass (RMM)...
