An Investigation into one of the Factors Affecting the Rate of a Reaction In this investigation I am going to investigate the affect of the concentration of acid on the rate of a reaction, using the reaction between Hydrocrolic Acid and Calcium Carbonate, using the equation; CaCO3 + 2HCL CaCl2 + H2O I predict that the higher the concentration of acid, the quicker the rate of reaction, this is because if a substance is more concentrated than another, the particles will be closer together and there will be more of them, as illustrated in the diagram below; Dilute Solution Concentrated Solution This will increase the frequency of collisions between particles and therefore increase the rate of reaction; if you double the concentration, you double the rate of reaction. This is due to the Productive Collision Theory, which states that for s reaction to take place, the reacting particles must collide, meeting with sufficient energy...
