An Experiment to find out how different amounts of Mg effect CuSO4. Prediction I know that if Mg is added CuSO4, an exothermic reaction will happen, heat will be given off and, I know from my research, Copper will be displaced. This will happen because when CuSO4 reacts with Mg, bonds between 'Cu', 'S' and 'O4' are being broken and new ones are being made with Mg. The equation for this is Mg + CuSO4 Heat Cu + MgSO4. The reason all this happens in the first place is because Mg is more reactive than CuSO4. From this background information I can predict that the more Mg added, the bigger the reaction. Equipment 5 boiling tubes 5 thermometers CuSO4 Mg Method First I will take 5 boiling tubes and put 25ml of CuSO4 into each one. Next I will add one spatula of Mg to the 1st tube, 2 spatulas to the 2nd, 3 to the 3rd, 4...
